K Recommends!

I am going to try and begin a new feature on my blog called "K Recommends!". These will be applications, websites or services that I find useful. I am not sponsored by any of these (unless otherwise noted).

Official Description:

Timehop brings together your old photos and updates from Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Instagram, flickr and your camera roll. It makes all these memories into easily sharable items, helping you tell the stories of the past.

Cost: FREE, available on Itunes

These applicaiton is greta for people that like to look back on past Facebook posts, tweets, and photos from today. I love this app because it helps remind me just how far I have come. My first runs have come up in my feed, my first race, and eevn photos that I forgot all about that made me smile once again. Like this one!

IFTT

Description:
IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement......

If you have noticed blog posts from me for Instagram photos here those were all created using recipes on IFTTT. It allows me to have Instagram posts directly fed into my blog. You can create many different recipes and it can help take a lot of the back end work we do to create a fluid message wihout going into three or four apps. Not all apps are available yet but every bit helps.

Example of how to make a recipe!

Here is a screenshot of the Instagram recipe I use for my blog....

I hope this information was useful and if you try these apps let me know what you think!

The Color Run™ - My Upcoming Run and a Giveaway!

(Sponsored Post)

This weekend myself and my two cousins will be particpating in the Color Run™ in Ventura, CA. We have our get ups all planned and are looking forward to some colorful fun together. It's Jami's first 5K. Pam is a bit more experienced with a few races under her newly acquired brown belt in Krav Maga (kudos to my girl).

For this weekend, this race is all about getting together with family and enjoying the fun. We plan on having a lot of that come race day. So excited to run this in Cali and getting in some down time after a busy few weeks at work. Fun is always a sure fire cure for that.

So, what exactly is the Color Run?

The Color Run™, is.known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet. It is a unique paint race that celebrates "healthiness, happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community". The Color Run is an un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer.

FUN!!!

The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Color Festival".

Sounds like a great idea to me! Be on the look out for my before and after photos and a full race report.

The folks at the Color Run™ have generously offered me some race bibs for the Las Vegas event to be held on February 22, 2014 in fabulous Downtown Las Vegas. To enter my first giveaway for one of the bibs please click link below:

Iron Girl Updates, and other life stuff! #irongirl

I know, I know. Yes, there has been a lack of weekly updates and again I do apologize. This past two weeks at work have been CRAZY. Since I work in Admissions I am on a constant track to meet certain goals for what we call "Start Week". This past week was one of those starts for us, one of our biggest of the year so I wanted to do as well as I could.

I also decided to take a class on Monday nights from 6-10pm, a drawing class of all things, so now I have that added to the already wacky mix of fun I have on my plate.

No excuses, I do have time to train. I just haven't had much energy. What energy I did have was given to my pup who was left home a bit more than usual since I had all that going on and Ben had softball or football most of the other nights. It has been really tough trying to manage everything. With three weeks to go Ben and I have made a deal that I will need to focus more on getting my training in. He'll need to pinch in more. As I write this my dog Castle, seen in the picture above left, is cuddled up on my lap. All 100 plus pounds of him. I know he needs to have time with me too. All of it is important. Finding balance is where I have really struggled.

I have done some things like participate in a Workout of the Month for Triceps through a Facebook page. Most of which I don't bother to on myfitnesspal or dailymile since they have been ten minutes here and there. Last weekend Angela and I met up with two fellow Iron Girls in training a did a 500m swim up at Lake Las Vegas. it was hard but I am less afraid of that portion of the race so it was an immense help. It was also nice that one of the women had experience with Iron Girls and gave us lots of tips.

Now, instead of being fearful, I am now getting excited for this. I am not doing it for time or any other real goal other then to finish it. To be able to say I did something that I would have never thought I could do. Really that is all this journey has ever been about for me. And yes, Angela went to our favorite breakfast place, Egg Works, afterwords. It just has to be done people - if you had the potatoes there you'd understand.

As for future races beyond this month there are a few in November that I am doing but beyond that I am holding off for now. Ben and I have been thinking of the "baby" issue so that may be coming in to play soon. We'll see what happens, but because of the uncertainty of that I don't want to register for any half marathons, etc until I know. I do have a Spartan Race scheduled for April of 2014 but I am hoping that I can defer it if I need to. I will cross that bridge as I come to it.

Speaking of races I have a giveaway running, make sure to check it out on my website www.runwith.com!

Enjoy the day! #sunday
